At their best, movies reflect our culture, inspire our better natures, record our history, and fuel our imaginations. In less deft hands, they can pander to baser instincts, drive societal divisions, or offer little more than intellectual pablum. Because it is often hard to know what you are going to get, Tom Shoebridge is returning by popular demand to guide you through the maze of cinema.
Tom promises "you will laugh, you will cry and above all, you will think. I will present movies that I hope will cover the full spectrum of life and the passage should never be boring."
Over six weeks, we will screen six movies—with each title revealed only at showtime because he believes surprise is "an essential emotion". Tom has curated a rich mix of vintage films, fresh releases, a standout comedy, and absolutely no car chases.

Tom Shoebridge founded the Canadian Screen Training Centre for Film in 1981, where 7000 students honed their craft over the years. Students and instructors included such luminaries as Sarah Polley, Atom Egoyan, Norman Jewison and Denise Robert. Shoebridge’s main objective with his programming was to force the creative executives on a given project—the writers, directors, producers and actors—to realize that they were a collaborative group, not creative islands.
He also spent many years sharing his expertise in high school, college and university classrooms across Canada and internationally. This is his 5th time teaching the eager audiences of Mississippi Mills and we are so delighted to have him back.
